Music Festival Interviews – FestivalFamily.com
Sandy Sohcot From The Rex Foundation
Being a member of a community means taking the responsibility of informing and educating your members of causes, organizations and events worth understanding. As a volunteer for several years with the Rex Foundation, it was only appropriate to bring it to the forefront to my Festival Family. For me, it all started before a Mickey Hart show which I was then honored with having the opportunity to work with the Rex Foundation, Rex. Prior to this event, I had very little knowledge regarding their cause and effect on our community. Little did I know, what an amazing opportunity to give back I was about to be gifted.
Since that point, I have been given the honor of teaming up with Sandy Sohcot, the Executive Director of the Rex Foundation. Sandy has dedicated her life to Rex by helping deliver the organizations mission by creating a learning environment for under privileged schools as well as helping small organizations gain the grants they need to succeed. In hopes of educating our Festival Family Community I took the time to interview Sandy regarding some aspects of the Rex Foundation that may not be known by everyone. As a community let us share with those around us the love and kindness the Rex Foundation provides for those in need.
Zach Deputy: Keeping it Real
Will Bernard: An Interview
J-man: Thanks for taking the time to do this.
J-man: In my opinion you’re playing with some of the top artists on the scene. At what point did you realize that your projects would come together in the fashion that they have?
Will: Let’s see, I started going down to Jazz Fest in New Orleans about… I think eight years ago. That’s where I first started plating with Robert Walter and Stanton Moore and that became a long term relationship. I guess, I mean; there has been a lot of stuff before that, including the Charlie Hunter project.
Eric Krasno of Soulive: An Interview
J-man: I appreciate you taking the time to do this.
Krasno: Of course, yeah.
J-man: Soulive is in it’s 10th year as a band, what’s changed since that first year?
Krasno: Man, so much. Um, you know it’s funny because I think in a lot of ways we’ve grown so much but now we’re kind of like coming back in a way, at least to the instrumentation, that we started with. Um, and over the 10 years we’ve obviously experimented with a lot of different sounds and a lot of collaborations. And I think that, you know; that obviously helped us grow as a band, and definitely collaborating with different artists adds a lot of depth to what we do. And also, you know; just trying different sounds and touring with different people and actually now, we’re just much more experienced. I think our writing has changed a lot too. I think, you know; basically we never wanted to put boundaries on it. I think when we first came out a lot of people saw it as a throw-back band, you know? Like, and organ trio that does the music of Grant Green and shit, you know? I think, uh, we wanted a lot more than that, you know? We grew up listening to so many other types of music. So, what we wanted to do was to take that instrumentation and infuse all other sorts of influences with that, you know?
Tim Palmieri of The Breakfast: An Interview

Music & Arts Fest September 26, 2009 Reading, PA - Todd Jones
quotes indicated in quotation marks.
Last night I spoke with Todd Jones, the producer of Dragonfly Music & Arts Fest (Saturday, September 26). Thinking he might be busy putting out all kinds of last minute fires, I asked Todd how things were going. His answer gave insight to a key factor in any successful music festival. “I’m glad I already had every thing setup. I’m anal about planning and organizing. Things were done so far in advance I could’ve done [Dragonfly] weeks ago.” Todd booked I Yahn I Arkestra and Juggling Suns in December ’08. “If you want the bands you want to play, you have to do that. Summer festival season fills up so quick on a bands schedule.”
